As a key bay in Sydney’s natural Harbour Neutral Bay has always been an important destination. In 1789 after the arrival of the First Fleet in Sydney, Governor Arthur Phillip declared this bay a neutral harbour. Neutral Bay was just the right distance away from Sydney Cove to keep convicts at bay and still allow other foreign ships to utilize the port.

While Neutral Bay has many historical homes “Brent Knowle” and “The Cobbles”, both in Shellcove Road,” The Gables” in Spruson Street, Keynsham, St Anne's and Gundimaine House, all of which form a significant heritage group and have a state heritage listing. Probably the most noted house in Neutral Bay is Nutcote the home of May Gibbs, children’s aurthor. A stroll around these streets can take us back in time.

Neutral Bay has many parks to go for a brisk walk or run in. Anderson Park in Clark Street is often home to local games of football. Other popular destinations include Ilberry Park in Barry Street, Forsyth Park in Montpelier Street, Willow Tree Park in Nook Avenue and Warringa Park in Rawson Street. Kurraba Park in Kurraba Road looks out over a harbour is an idea spot to relax and watch the passing of time.
